Rehabilitation Treatment After Injury, Stroke, Heart Attack in Israel

The main task of medical rehabilitation is to restore the optimal quality of life disrupted due to injury.

The individual rehabilitation program determines the optimal combination of medical, physical, mental, psychological, and behavioral treatment methods, along with a set of recommendations for modulating the lifestyle of the patient and their family.

The overall rehabilitation strategy, determination of the potential for functional recovery, goals, and timelines of the program are formulated by a unified professional team under the guidance of a physician specializing in rehabilitation.

Components of the rehabilitation program:

  • Observation by a rehabilitation physician, a specialist in neurological rehabilitation (at least three times a week), including the selection of symptomatic medication and coordination of the team's work
  • Physical therapy treatment by an experienced physiotherapist twice a day
  • Treatment using Surface EMG Biofeedback
  • Self-work program for muscle strengthening
  • Occupational therapy treatment to optimize daily function
  • Consultation with a neurologist
  • Consultation with a neurosurgeon
  • Examination of the urinary system with urodynamic testing and determination of optimal treatment tactics
  • Consultation with a urologist
  • Conducting additional diagnostic examinations of the spinal cord (MRI)
  • Selection of assistive technical devices
  • Monitoring of psychological state

Stages of rehabilitation:

  1. Rehabilitation diagnosis to build a unified individual program

Conducted by the rehabilitation team during the first week of treatment.

The team includes a physician specializing in neurological rehabilitation (planning necessary medication to reduce the risk of complications and symptomatic treatment, determining the overall program), a physiotherapy specialist (determining motor function disorders and a program for their functional correction), an occupational therapy specialist (assessing disorders in various aspects of basic and extended functioning), and a rehabilitation nurse (assessing basic daily function disorders). If necessary, additional specialists may be included in the team at the decision of the rehabilitation physician.

Based on the examination results and during discussions by the team under the physician's guidance, a rehabilitation treatment program is formed.

  1. Implementation of the rehabilitation treatment program

The program consists of daily intensive individual sessions according to the developed plan. The rehabilitation physician supervises all aspects of the rehabilitation program with individual patient examinations as needed, but no less than three times a week.

In addition to individual sessions, various types of group activities and independent training are organized within the program.

The treatment program includes electrophysiological procedures using the most modern methods of laser computer-controlled systems and magnetic resonance therapy methods, with over 40 different procedures.

As needed, but at least once every two weeks, the rehabilitation team discusses the patient's condition, making adjustments to the program and determining intermediate goals.

The results of examinations, treatments, as well as meetings of the rehabilitation team are discussed with the patient and their surroundings (at their request).

  1. Formulation of recommendations upon completion of treatment

Upon completion of rehabilitation treatment, a conclusion is formed with detailed recommendations for continuing supportive treatment, adapting the environment, and modeling lifestyle.
