Adrenal Cancer Treatment in Israel

Professor Aaron SulkesProfessor Aaron Sulkes

Head of the Oncology Center

At the Top Ihilov Medical Center, adrenal tumour removal is performed by top-level specialists, experienced doctors who have undergone years of training in the best clinics and universities in the USA, Canada, and Europe, and are proficient in modern surgical techniques and advanced medical equipment. Typically, the tumour is removed using minimally invasive methods through small incisions, which minimizes trauma to the body and significantly shortens rehabilitation times.

Adrenal Tumour Treatment in Israel at Top Ihilov Clinic

Adrenal CancerIn adrenal cancer, radiation therapy and chemotherapy are not very effective; they are mainly used to prevent further cancer spread and to reduce pain. Chemotherapy is also used to lower hormone levels in the body.

The primary method for treating adrenal cancer is surgery for partial or complete removal of the adrenal gland. In most cases, Top Ihilov surgeons prefer to perform minimally invasive laparoscopic surgeries through a small incision. Two types of access are practiced for such surgeries: from the abdominal cavity (transabdominal access) or from the lower back (retroperitoneal access). An endoscope with a camera, light source, and microsurgical instrument is introduced through the incision. For complete removal of the adrenal gland, adrenalectomy, inert gas is pumped into the abdominal cavity to better visualize the surgical area. Laparoscopic surgery significantly reduces the risk of postoperative complications and shortens the rehabilitation period.

In the later stages of tumour development, with its large size and the presence of numerous metastases, adrenal removal is performed using traditional access through an incision in the anterior abdominal wall or from the chest (thoracoabdominal access).

Diagnosis of Adrenal Tumours in Israel

Diagnosis at the Top Ihilov clinic guarantees timely detection of any disease, including asymptomatic and hard-to-diagnose oncological and benign tumours. Modern equipment and the extensive experience of Israeli diagnostic doctors help accurately determine the location of the tumour, its size, structure, and the presence of metastases.

First Day

On the first day at the clinic, the patient consults with a leading oncologist who reviews their medical history and test results brought to Israel. The doctor then conducts a preliminary examination and provides a referral for additional diagnostics if necessary. Simultaneously, all necessary documents for treatment are prepared.

Second Day

On the second day, the main diagnostic procedures are carried out. The primary diagnostic methods for adrenal tumours at Top Ihilov include:

  • laboratory blood and urine tests;
  • ultrasound examination (US);
  • one of the most modern methods MSCT (used since 1992) - multi-slice computed tomography with the introduction of a contrast agent into the veins;
  • magnetic resonance imaging (MRI);
  • positron emission tomography (PET).

It is important to note that not all types of adrenal tumours can be diagnosed early: primary cancerous tumours of the cortex are rarely detected at early stages. This is another reason why patients suspected of having an adrenal tumour should seek treatment at a leading Israeli clinic and not rely on local diagnostics: unfortunately, we know of hundreds of cases where tourists from the former CIS countries were misdiagnosed. This is due to both insufficient equipment levels and, primarily, the inadequate qualifications of technicians and diagnosticians.

Third Day.

On the third day, a pre-arranged expert group of specialists from various fields develops a comprehensive treatment plan. The group includes oncologists, nephrologists, specialists in radiation therapy and chemotherapy. These doctors continuously monitor the patient's condition and adjust the treatment plan if necessary.

  • Biopsy
  • Computed Tomography
  • Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI)
  • Diagnosis - PET CT
