The type of prosthesis is selected depending on the nature of the changes in the joint and the cause of the pathology. The surgical intervention is performed under general anesthesia (less often under epidural anesthesia) and takes about 2 hours. The operation is carried out in several stages.

1. Access to the joint is obtained through an incision of about 20 cm, with minimal damage to soft tissues. Preparation for the installation of the prosthesis is carried out — removal of joint cartilage and destroyed bone parts.
2. Installation and fixation of the prosthesis, consisting of a cup, stem, and head, made according to the individual sizes of the patient.
3. Treating the wound with antiseptic solution, suturing soft tissues and skin.

The day after the procedure, the patient can get up, after 7 days he is discharged from the clinic, and approximately 4-5 weeks later he returns to a fully active life.
Knee joint replacement surgery
Since the knee joint provides oscillatory movements and rotation, its surgical replacement must be performed with maximum precision. The surgery is performed under general or epidural anesthesia.
The prosthesis is made according to the sizes obtained during the preoperative X-ray examination. During the surgical intervention, the upper part of the tibia is replaced with a combined metal-plastic implant, while the femoral fragment of the prosthesis is made of a metal alloy. The endoprosthesis is fixed using Bone Cement or the modern Press Fit method. The advantage of the latest cementless fixation technique is that bone tissue gradually grows into the inner part of the prosthesis over time.
For two days after the surgery, the patient remains in the orthopedic department of the clinic. Pain relief medications are prescribed, and special sleeves are placed on his calves to prevent thrombosis. The day after the prosthetic procedure, the patient is allowed to walk, and on the third day, he is discharged.
