Doctor Mishan NadavDoctor Mishan Nadav

Senior physician of the gynecological oncology and cervical department.

Every year, thousands of women from various corners of the world come to Israel for hysteroscopy. This minimally invasive examination of the uterus in Israel is performed using the most modern endoscopic equipment, particularly ultra-thin fibrous hysteroscopes capable of transmitting images to a computer.

Hysteroscopy at Ichilov can be performed for both diagnostic and therapeutic purposes. The specialists at the center identify a wide range of uterine pathologies using this method, treat infertility, remove polyps, etc. The high quality of diagnostic and surgical hysteroscopy performed at the clinic, the high level of physician training, and the personalized approach to each patient annually attract many women from around the world to the Top Ichilov center.

Hysteroscopy in Israeli Clinics — Indications

Hysteroscopy in Israel — High-Precision Endoscopic ExaminationHysteroscopic diagnostics in our clinic is performed for a number of indications. This type of diagnostics allows for a detailed examination of the mucosal condition, identification of anatomical anomalies, and a range of diseases. Typically, in Israeli clinics, this type of diagnostics is performed for the following indications.

  • Diagnosis of endometriosis, fibroids, polyps, malignant tumors, and a number of other diseases.
  • Identification of adhesions and septa in the uterus.
  • Determination of the etiology of menstrual cycle disorders.
  • Identification of infertility causes.

This endoscopic procedure can also be performed for biopsy collection or for therapeutic purposes — modern models of hysteroscopes are equipped with an instrumental channel through which the physician can operate miniature surgical instruments. Using hysteroscopy, the physician can remove intrauterine devices, perform the removal of fibroids and polyps, dissect septa, etc.

Procedure Conduct

The procedure is performed using a special endoscopic device called a hysteroscope. It is a thin metal tube with a camera and a miniature light source at the distal end. Data from the camera is transmitted via a fiber optic cable to the eyepiece. Observing through the eyepiece the internal structures of the uterus, the physician conducts diagnostics or therapeutic procedures.

Gynecologists in Israeli medical centers prefer to use more modern models of endoscopic equipment — ultra-thin flexible fibrous hysteroscopes. These are advanced systems that provide very high image quality and allow recording the image from the eyepiece to a computer for subsequent processing and analysis. The diameter of the inserted tube of such devices barely exceeds three millimeters, and its distal end can bend at an angle of more than 120 degrees, which broadens the device's capabilities even further.

Conducting the ProcedureThe best time for diagnostics is the period following the end of menstruation when the thickness of the endometrial layer is relatively small. Depending on the purpose of the procedure, local or general anesthesia is used. Sometimes anesthesia is not required. Some patients undergo cervical dilation beforehand, although the diameter of modern hysteroscopes is so small that in most cases dilation is unnecessary.

During the examination, the hysteroscope is inserted through the vagina into the uterine cavity, which is inflated with carbon dioxide or filled with a special saline solution. This is standard practice for any cavity endoscopic procedures. It improves the view of the internal structures of the examined cavity. Carbon dioxide is used if the procedure is diagnostic. Electrolyte solutions are used for both diagnostic and surgical hysteroscopy. If solutions are used, electro-surgical operations can be performed using bipolar equipment.

Observing through the eyepiece, the physician examines the condition of the inner surface of the uterus. If anomalies are detected that can be treated immediately, the physician performs the necessary manipulations using the surgical hysteroscope. Surgical intervention can be carried out using standard micro-surgical morcellators, lasers, or mono- or bipolar electro-surgical instruments. Typical surgical procedures include endometrial ablation, submucosal resection of fibrous formations, and polypectomy.

Surgical procedures performed by specialists at our clinic are conducted without any complications. After hysteroscopy, the patient can leave the clinic. If desired, the international department staff can organize a tour of historical sites for you to fully appreciate the opportunities of modern medical tourism.

Cost

Israeli clinics traditionally attract foreign patients with democratic pricing for procedures. Patients from the United States, Germany, Canada, France, and several other countries can save at least 30-45% of their budget compared to diagnostics and treatment in their home countries.

However, relatively low costs for medical procedures do not mean that they are conducted with insufficient quality — Israeli medical centers use state-of-the-art models of hysteroscopes, and the qualifications of gynecologists are beyond doubt. The goal of Israeli clinics is to provide a wide range of foreign patients with high-quality yet affordable medical services. Judging by the fact that the flow of patients increases year after year, Israeli medical professionals are quite successful in this endeavor.
