Professor Moshe PappaHead and one of the founders of the Breast Cancer Prevention Center
The ultrasound technology in Israel has reached technological perfection. Thanks to the latest equipment, excellent training, and extensive clinical experience of Israeli functional diagnosticians, this country has one of the highest rates of accurately diagnosed cases in the world. Local specialists quickly and accurately identify problems, exclude or confirm diseases and functional deviations of any organ, and assess the degree of vessel patency and blood flow intensity.
Today, it is impossible to imagine modern examinations without performing sonography, although this informative technology has been practiced for just over 50 years in medical settings.
Ultrasound examinations have many advantages:
- thanks to the latest models of hardware, images are visualized in very high clarity;
- the procedures are completely painless and absolutely safe;
- the procedures do not require special preliminary preparation;
- the process is extremely simple to perform;
- the interpretation of reflected sound waves is one of the fastest and most informative studies;
- ultrasound machines are widely available and financially accessible;
- considering the absolute absence of ionizing radiation and the safety of the procedure, it can be performed multiple times.
Indications for Ultrasound Examination

Ultrasound methods are completely harmless. They are applicable to children and adults regardless of age and any health issues. Ultrasound in Israeli clinics can be performed by individuals on their own initiative or by a doctor's referral.
There are several physiological conditions in which ultrasound is highly advisable:
- various disorders of internal organ function requiring detailed clarification of the clinical picture;
- acute injuries of the male reproductive system organs;
- pathologies of the thyroid gland and formations in the neck area;
- scleroderma, rheumatic diseases, and other systemic pathologies;
- monitoring of nephrological pathologies;
- problems with the cardiovascular system with characteristic changes tracked on the electrocardiogram;
- respiratory system diseases requiring assessment and determination of the degree of pathological changes in the pleura, pleural cavity, and lungs;
- pregnancy, when monitoring the condition and development features of the fetus, placenta, and amniotic fluid is necessary.

The method of ultrasound diagnostics is based on the principle of echography. The tissues of the human body have different densities. They conduct ultrasound waves differently, and these visualized differences are clearly recognized by doctors on monitors.
According to Israeli medical statistics, the most commonly performed ultrasound examinations are:
- of the abdominal organs. During this examination, the ultrasound specialist studies and analyzes the condition of the liver, spleen, pancreas, gallbladder, and its ducts;
- of the pelvic organs. This examination is one of the mandatory ones for the female population. Tests conducted on girls and women allow for the identification of pathologies of the female reproductive system;
- classical and specific instrumental studies of the mammary glands. The procedure allows for the diagnosis and precise localization of mastopathies, cystic and tumor formations;
- examination of the thyroid gland. A specific test that allows for the detection of diffuse enlargement of the organ, the presence of nodules and tumors;
- of the heart muscle and vessels;
- of the kidneys and bladder;
- of the bladder and prostate gland to identify prostate adenoma and urinary drainage disorders;
examination of the spermatic cords, testicles, and functionality of the male reproductive system.

Features of Ultrasound in Israeli Clinics

The examination is conducted by a qualified functional diagnostics physician. The ultrasound machine consists of a computer-controlled unit with a video monitor. A small sensor is connected to it, combining the ultrasound wave emitter and the receiver of the reflected ultrasound stream.
This is a modern diagnostic imaging device, through which the doctor sees the internal organs of the human body in real-time on the screen. The cost of ultrasound in Israel depends on the methodology and purpose of the examination. In addition to classical ultrasound tests, Israeli doctors perform specific transrectal and transvaginal diagnostics.
Ultrasound in Israeli hospitals is performed in specially equipped rooms.
- Traditionally, the patient lies on a couch.
- A special gel is applied to the exposed area of the body. The substance is harmless to the body, does not cause irritation or allergic reactions, and does not contain medications. The purpose of the gel is to eliminate air between the sensor and the skin.
- The doctor places the small emitter of high-frequency sound impulses over the area being examined and lightly presses it against the skin. These impulses penetrate and spread through the body painlessly. The ultrasound wave passes between tissues and organs, reflecting off them.
- During transvaginal and transrectal examinations, the receiver-emitter is inserted into the natural cavities of the body. During the examination, a special thin disposable protective cover is placed on the device.
- The special sensor records the reflected echo signals, and the computer program transforms them into an image on the monitor. The procedure is non-invasive, lasts a few minutes, and has no contraindications.
- At the end of the examination, the patient is provided with a printed protocol (image on paper) and the doctor's conclusion.
Before undergoing an ultrasound, it is necessary to follow certain rules that will help accurately conduct the examination:
- inform the doctor about all medications being taken;
- for some examinations, such as reproductive system diagnostics or transrectal ultrasound of the prostate, a full bladder and additional bowel cleansing are required;
- endoscopic examinations of the stomach and intestines performed the day before the ultrasound may distort the picture of the organ's condition, so the doctor should be informed about these manipulations;
- functional diagnostics physicians recommend not consuming raw vegetables, fruits, and legumes before the procedure, temporarily limiting the intake of sweets and flour products, as well as carbonated and alcoholic beverages;
if the patient has results from previous ultrasounds, it is advisable for the doctor to review them to assess changes and create the most complete picture of the changes that have occurred in the body.
Cost of Ultrasound in Israel
The examination program is calculated individually. Depending on the purpose of the examination, the price of ultrasound in Israel can vary significantly. The calculation is influenced by the diagnostic method. The cost of ultrasound during pregnancy and duplex scanning of intracranial vessels and neck vessels differs significantly. Regardless of the chosen methodology, diagnostics are conducted with extreme accuracy, patients receive top-class medical services, and the cost of examinations in Israel is significantly lower than in European or American clinics.
