Biobank of Tumor Tissues Established at Ichilov

As is known, during a biopsy, samples of tumor tissues are collected for further research and determination of the optimal treatment method. Their role does not end there – they can be used to study various types of cancer diseases, with the aim of identifying new biomarkers, creating drugs for their treatment, and developing effective diagnostic methods.

For this purpose, a biobank department has been established at the Sourasky (Ichilov) Medical Center, where, with the patient's consent and in compliance with medical confidentiality, tissue samples are collected. Special chambers with liquid nitrogen are used for their storage. Similar banks have been created in other medical centers in Israel. This provides a new opportunity for Israeli oncologists to exchange information and research results, which undoubtedly creates favorable conditions for continuing research in the field of oncology and achieving new results in the fight against cancer diseases.
