Types of Eosinophilic Granuloma

This disease primarily affects males of all ages. There are several types of eosinophilic granuloma:

  • Solitary or multiple bone tumors (Taratynov's disease) – the most common type, primarily affecting children, with solitary lesions being more frequent.
  • Solitary lesions typically appear in the bones of the skull, in the femur and humerus, in the pelvic bones, and in the lumbar spine.
    Skin tumors
  • Lung tumors, gastrointestinal tract tumors, and tumors of other internal organs

Main Symptoms of Eosinophilic Granuloma

Cancer treatment abroadThe symptoms of this disease are few; common to all its forms is the appearance of swelling or a nodule in the affected area.

The eosinophilic granuloma of the bones has slightly more pronounced symptoms. They include:

  • Fatigue
  • Fever up to 38-39°C
  • Pallor
  • Anemia
  • Various skin changes
  • Lethargy
  • Weight loss

If the tumor is localized in the spine, the following may occur:

  • Limited mobility
  • Increased tendon reflexes and clonus of the feet
  • Back pain
  • Slightly noticeable spinal deformities: scoliosis, lordosis, kyphosis, and stoop. Compression of the vertebra (flat vertebra) occurs, leading to microscopic fractures of the vertebra with local hemorrhage.

The mild symptoms last for 3-4 months, during which diagnosing eosinophilic granuloma is very challenging, so in medical centers where the experience and qualifications of doctors fall short of the level of training of the staff at Top Ichilov, a patient may receive an incorrect diagnosis, such as:

  • Bone form of tuberculosis
  • Meningoradiculitis
  • Rheumatism
  • Osteomyelitis
  • Osteosarcoma
  • Neuroblastoma
  • Fibrous osteodystrophy
  • Lymphogranulomatosis
  • Leukemia and many others.

Treatment of Eosinophilic Granuloma in Israel at Top Ichilov Clinic

The effectiveness of treatment for this disease increases with the age of the patient.

Typically, treatment is carried out in an inpatient setting. The patient is prescribed:

  • A course of medication therapy using glucocorticoids in combination with cytostatics.
  • If the spine is affected, measures are taken to relieve it: traction, a plaster bed, a corset.
  • In rare cases, decompression of the spinal cord is performed.
  • Radiation therapy alleviates pain and mild neurological symptoms.
  • In rare cases, surgical removal of the tumor is performed, mainly if it concerns bone tumors.

For the specialists at Top Ichilov, there are no rare or hard-to-detect diseases; the only factor that can significantly reduce the effectiveness of treatment is the advanced stage of the disease and the late appeal of the patient. However, this aspect of the treatment process entirely depends on you. Take the first step towards recovery, spend a few seconds of your time, and fill out the form on our website to receive a free consultation from a specialist.
