Types of Eosinophilic Granuloma

This disease primarily affects males of all ages. There are several types of eosinophilic granuloma:

  • Single or multiple bone tumours (Taratynov's disease) – the most common type, primarily affecting children, with single lesions being more frequent. The single tumour typically appears in the bones of the skull, in the femur and humerus, in the pelvic bones, and in the lumbar region of the spine.

  • Tumour of the lungs, gastrointestinal tract, and other internal organs

Main Symptoms of Eosinophilic Granuloma

Cancer treatment abroadThe symptoms of this disease are few; common to all its forms is the appearance of swelling or a nodule in the affected area.

The eosinophilic granuloma of the bones has slightly more pronounced symptoms. The following appear:

  • Fatigue
  • Fever up to 38-39°C
  • Pallor
  • Anemia
  • Various skin changes
  • Lethargy
  • Weight loss

If the tumour is localized in the spine, the following may occur:

  • Limited mobility
  • Increased tendon reflexes and clonus of the feet
  • Back pain
  • Subtle spinal deformities: scoliosis, lordosis, stoop, kyphosis. Compression of the vertebra (flat vertebra) occurs, with microscopic fractures of the vertebra and local hemorrhage.

The mild symptoms last for 3-4 months, during which time diagnosing eosinophilic granuloma is very difficult, so in medical centers where the experience and qualifications of doctors are inferior to the training level of the staff at Top Ihilov, a patient may receive an incorrect diagnosis, such as:

  • Bone form of tuberculosis
  • Meningoradiculitis
  • Rheumatism
  • Osteomyelitis
  • Osteosarcoma
  • Neuroblastoma
  • Fibrous osteodystrophy
  • Lymphogranulomatosis
  • Leukemia and many others.

Treatment of Eosinophilic Granuloma in Israel at Top Ihilov Clinic

The effectiveness of treatment for this disease increases with the patient's age.

As a rule, treatment is carried out in a hospital setting. The patient is prescribed:

  • A course of medication therapy using glucocorticoids in combination with cytostatics.
  • If the spine is affected, measures are taken to relieve it: traction, plaster bed, corset.
  • In rare cases, decompression of the spinal cord is performed.
  • Radiation therapy alleviates pain and mild neurological symptoms.
  • In rare cases, surgical removal of the tumour is performed, mainly if it concerns a bone tumour.

For the specialists at Top Ihilov, there are no rare and hard-to-detect diseases; the only thing that can significantly reduce the effectiveness of treatment is the advanced stage of the disease and the late appeal of the patient. But this aspect of the treatment process completely depends on you. • The main methods are various radiological studies that determine the stage of the disease, as well as the localization and structure of the tumour, mainly CT and bone scanning
  • Biopsy with subsequent histological examination, revealing the cellular composition of the affected area
