Many people prefer Israeli medicine because medical institutions here are equipped with the most modern equipment, medical staff has a high level of professionalism, and numerous research centers are constantly working to improve diagnostic and treatment methods. This is why the treatment of neurofibroma in Israel will undoubtedly be effective.

Neurofibroma is a benign oncological disease that develops from specific nerve tissue cells – Schwann cells and connective tissue cells – fibroblasts. Typically, tumours appear on the torso, arms, legs, and less often on the face and neck. Neurofibromas are often accompanied by the appearance of pigmented spots resembling freckles or the color of coffee with milk. Multiple neurofibromas occur, in which case the disease is called neurofibromatosis. Both solitary and multiple tumours are prone to malignant transformation.

How Neurofibroma Manifests

Usually, neurofibromas are soft subcutaneous formations. Often, the disease is asymptomatic; however, if the tumour grows in a confined space, for example, in the opening between the vertebrae, it may manifest as radiculopathy or neuropathy.

Treatment of Neurofibroma at Top Ihilov Clinic

Although these benign tumours grow slowly, their tendency for malignant transformation is an indication for the removal of neurofibromas.

If a solitary tumour is located subcutaneously or in a place that allows for surgical intervention, surgery is performed. In some cases, if the localization of the neurofibroma permits, minimally invasive endoscopic intervention is used. Highly qualified onconeurosurgeons at Top Ihilov Clinic will remove the neurofibroma using the least traumatic method with state-of-the-art endoscopic equipment, which in turn reduces the risk of complications and the duration of the postoperative period.

If the neurofibroma is located deeply or in an inaccessible place, then the primary treatment method will be stereotactic radiation therapy, which allows for the removal of the tumour using low doses of radiation with minimal impact on healthy tissues. This method, also practiced at Top Ihilov Clinic, is called CyberKnife and has virtually no contraindications. The advantage of this method is also that it does not require a long stay for the patient in the clinic. Immediately after the radiation procedure, the patient is discharged home. At the same time, the effect of the intervention does not appear immediately. It takes some time for the tumour to break down and scar.

Diagnosis of Neurofibroma

Since neurofibromas are most often located subcutaneously, they are easily diagnosed through palpation and ultrasound. If the tumour is located deeper, computed tomography or magnetic resonance imaging and ultrasound are performed. For a more accurate diagnosis, excisional biopsy with subsequent examination of the taken tissue under a microscope is used.
