How is laparoscopic gallbladder surgery performed?
The surgery is performed under general anesthesia through 3-4 small incisions (instead of one large one).
- Initially, a small incision near the navel is made to fill the abdominal cavity with a special gas (carbon dioxide). This is done to facilitate access to the surgical area.
- Then, through the same incision, a laparoscope equipped with optical fibers is inserted into the abdominal cavity, which transmits an image to a high-resolution screen. This allows doctors to visually monitor the progress of the surgery.
- Through 2-3 additional incisions, laparoscopes equipped with microsurgical instruments are introduced into the abdominal cavity, which are used to crush stones, excise tumors, remove the gallbladder, and so on.
