The method of treating nephroblastoma depends on the child's age and the stage of tumor development. The younger the child and the earlier the stage, the more effective and faster the treatment.

There are five main stages of Wilms tumor:

1. The tumor is confined to the kidney.
2. The tumor metastasizes beyond the kidney capsule.
3. The tumor extends beyond the capsule but without metastases.

Diagnosis of Wilms tumor in Israel

Wilms tumor can often be detected by simple palpation of the abdomen. Typically, the formation is localized closer to the left or right side, and in late stages, there is an increase in the abdomen on that side. Bilateral nephroblastoma, meaning tumors in both kidneys, is extremely rare. Otherwise, nephroblastoma can develop without any symptoms. In children aged 5-6, it is almost impossible to palpate the tumor; it is only found after tests reveal blood in the urine. At this stage, the disease manifests with side or abdominal pain, fever, and sometimes elevated blood pressure.
