The Institute of Radiotherapy, operating within the largest medical complex in Tel Aviv, Sourasky (Ichilov), is the first medical institution outside the USA and Canada to be included in the Radiotherapy Oncology Group and has begun to implement RTOG protocols.

One of the advanced achievements in this field is produced by Philips. This is a computed tomography simulator – a scanner that performs high-speed layered examination of tissues with high-quality imaging output, allowing for the localization of tumors with minimal error and studying their position relative to adjacent organs.

At the Sourasky Medical Center, an innovative method of targeted radiotherapy is widely practiced, made possible by a linear accelerator equipped with a High Definition MLC 3D visualization system. The three-dimensional image of the tumor allows for modeling the radiation beam in precise accordance with the contours of the malignant formation.
Another innovative technology used by specialists at the Top Ichilov Clinic in radiotherapy is the system for monitoring the patient's breathing during irradiation. The principle of operation of the equipment is based on the use of two different techniques that allow for breath-holding and synchronization with the patient's breathing rhythm. Thus, the radiation beam is adjusted taking into account the tumor's deviation during the patient's inhalation and exhalation.
In conjunction with the linear accelerator, Israeli oncologists typically use the method of distributing radioactive particles in the patient's body known as “Monte Carlo.” The basis of the special digital equipment is a technology that NASA actively used to ensure the operation of nuclear reactors.
Monitoring the patient's condition dynamically is carried out using the control system from Varian.
Doctors take all possible measures to achieve the maximum result from the radiotherapy performed, ensuring the safety of healthy organs and tissues. The duration of irradiation sessions in Israel has been reduced from 45 minutes to 10 minutes, and the break between procedures has also been shortened, which has minimized the side effects of radiation on the patient's body.
