New Opportunities in Assessing the Effectiveness of Cancer Therapy

Varian

Varian has released a new version of software that helps to treat cancer as effectively and safely as possible, as it allows for the assessment of the impact of the therapy being conducted.

The Velocity software processes images obtained from a tomograph. Its new version, Velocity 4.0, has a number of additional advantages that help doctors obtain a more accurate picture of the disease and the effectiveness of the conducted cancer treatment. With the presence of the Rapidsphere module, Velocity 4.0 can analyze the necessary dose of radiation required for a specific patient during SIRT (selective internal radiation therapy) sessions.

Varian is a company specializing in the manufacture of high-tech tools for the medical industry. One of its products, which allows doctors to conduct more effective treatment, is software for tomographs. Velocity 4.0 (the new version of the software from Varian) helps to more accurately assess the response of cancer pathology to the conducted radiation therapy, as well as to determine the risks from radiation exposure to healthy tissues in each specific case.

The new Rapidsphere module provides a detailed picture of the effectiveness of the conducted SIRT therapy, analyzes data from diagnostic studies from various systems and devices, thereby providing complete and accurate information that will help the doctor assess the effectiveness of the chosen therapy. In addition, Rapidsphere calculates what dose of radiation is safe for the patient.

The innovation has already been highly appreciated and received FDA approval (U.S. Food and Drug Administration) for use in medical institutions.

Advantages of the new version Velocity 4.0:

  • Updated functionality. Velocity Tumor & Dose Tracking tracks changes that have occurred in the characteristics of the neoplasm, helping to understand how treatable the tumour is with radiation therapy. It also assesses the total dose of radiation received by the patient during SIRT therapy and other treatment methods.
  • Multimodal imaging. Velocity M3i allows for the simultaneous display of results from different studies, such as CT, ultrasound, MRI, PET-CT, and others. This enables the doctor to create a more accurate overall picture of the cancer pathology.
  • Automatic synchronization. The Velocity Aria Sync program automatically synchronizes selected objects from the Eclipse and Aria information systems, allowing them to be saved in the Velocity program.
