How are surgeries performed in Israel?

Do you want to know if Israel can solve your specific problem?

In Israel, the most complex surgeries are expertly performed in all areas of surgery. Many Israeli techniques have no analogues even in countries with the most developed medicine, such as the USA, England, Germany, etc.

Are you interested in the level of equipment of Israeli surgeons?

Surgeries in Israel - procedureSurgical equipment in Israeli clinics meets the latest advancements in medical and computer technology; laser technologies are widely used, surgeries are performed using ultrasound, and in many cases, the latest development in medical equipment – the surgical robot – is applied.

All surgeries in Israel are performed by experienced surgeons, from planned surgeries to complex oncological procedures, who masterfully handle the most advanced medical equipment, with most surgeries performed using minimally invasive methods (through small incisions). This significantly reduces the risk of complications and recurrences, as well as greatly shortens the postoperative rehabilitation period.

Surgeries in Israel are performed in all areas of modern surgery:

  • Surgical Department
  • Abdominal Surgery (surgeries of the organs and walls of the abdominal cavity)
  • Cardiac Surgery(heart surgeries)
  • Neurosurgery(nervous system surgeries)
  • General Surgery
  • Oncological Surgery (removal of cancerous tumours and metastases)
  • Orthopedic Surgery (surgeries on the spine, joints, limb surgeries, foot surgeries)
  • Plastic Surgery
  • Proctological Surgery (surgeries of the intestines and rectum)
  • Radiation Surgery (irradiation of cancerous tumours with a high dose of ionizing radiation)
  • Vascular Surgery (surgeries of blood vessels)
  • Spinal Surgery (surgeries of the spine and spinal cord)
  • Thoracic Surgery (surgeries of the organs of the chest)

High-tech robot-assisted surgery

da Vinci robot

Israeli specialists successfully perform the most
complex surgeries on any organs and systems using high-tech
auxiliary installations – robot assistants. At the Ichilov Clinic, more than 15% of all surgical interventions are performed using the Da Vinci robot. This is the most modern and versatile model. The robot is equipped with several movable manipulators, a video navigation system, and a control block. The robot's manipulators with surgical attachments are introduced into the intervention area through small punctures, significantly reducing the patient's recovery time. The surgical field image is displayed on the control panel screen with tenfold magnification and maximum detail: this eliminates the risk of nerve and vessel damage. After assessing the condition of the surgical field, the surgeon moves the joysticks on the control panel, remotely controlling the robot's manipulators. As a result, the robot's "hands" replicate the doctor's movements with surgical precision, ensuring minimal trauma to healthy tissues.

  1. Endoscopic interventions
Surgeons at the Ichilov Clinic work using organ-preserving, minimally invasive techniques. Such interventions are performed using endoscopic equipment. These are flexible tubes equipped with functional attachments, a light source, and a video camera. Instruments are brought to the intervention area through natural openings or small punctures. Also, if the patient is to undergo extensive surgery on the abdominal organs or pelvis, all manipulations are performed using the Single Port technique. A silicone guide is introduced through the puncture, through which up to 4 endoscopes and other manipulators can be brought to the surgical field. Compared to open surgery, this method has much lower risks and significantly shortens rehabilitation times.
  2. Non-invasive surgeries
The percutaneous ablation method has proven itself well in Israeli medicine. This is one of the most gentle and versatile techniques, used to destroy small neoplasms, metastases, ulcerative defects, and other pathologies. The method involves puncturing the skin above the intervention area and introducing a thin needle with a functional electrode. The accuracy of hitting the pathological area is controlled by ultrasound. After placing the electrode, liquid nitrogen (cryoablation), high-frequency current (electroablation), or a laser beam (photocoagulation) is applied. Feedback from patients regarding this method is exclusively positive, as rehabilitation after such an intervention takes only a couple of hours.
  3. Endovascular interventions
If a patient requires surgery on the heart, valves, or vessels, Israeli surgeons use endovascular techniques without resorting to open surgeries. Through small punctures in large vessels (inguinal, femoral, brachial arteries), a special guide is brought to the surgical area with the necessary conductor. Unlike "open" surgeries, such interventions take from 30 to 70 minutes, with full preservation of functionality. Cardiovascular surgeons at Ichilov perform valve replacement surgeries, destruction of arrhythmia foci, vascular plastic surgeries, restoration of artery patency, etc., using this technique.
