Top Ichilov Radiotherapy Department: the most advanced radiation therapy in Israel

Radiation therapy in Israel today is one of the most reliable and safe ways to combat disease. The Top Ichilov clinic is equipped with state-of-the-art equipment. The radiation therapy department has seven accelerators, two of which are the most modern in all of Israel.

The use of the most relevant treatment methods, such as SBRT, IMRT, IGRT, allows doctors to achieve excellent results.

Some of these methods are actively used for radiation therapy for pancreatic cancer, lung cancer, malignant brain tumours, and other tumours.

What is radiation therapy in Israel using the IMRT method?

Radiation therapy is a type of treatment for oncological diseases that is based on the use of X-rays or other types of ionizing radiation. The radiation damages rapidly dividing cells, making it lethal for cancerous tumours.

IMRT – is intensity-modulated radiation therapy. In the modern world, it is considered one of the most effective and precise methods of radiation therapy.

This highly maneuverable method of irradiation allows for the regulation of the radiation dose level directly during the therapy session. This enables maximum destruction of malignant cells with minimal harm to healthy tissues. The treatment course lasts five to seven weeks, five days a week. If this method is used as an adjunct treatment, it lasts two to three weeks. Each session lasts fifteen minutes.

Treatment in Israel is a very serious approach to each of its stages. Radiation therapy is planned using specialized technology – CT-simulator, or, in the most difficult cases, PET CT.

The essence of planning lies in the so-called simulation. During this procedure, specialists mark the localization of the tumour focus by applying special lines and points. Then, equipment is used to take all necessary measurements.

The radiation therapy department employs physicists who perform the remaining calculations for the correct direction and adjustment of the beam strength.

Only after all these procedures can doctors begin the course of radiation therapy for cancer.

What is radiation therapy in Israel using the IGRT method?

IGRT – is a method of precise irradiation of non-static cancer cells (for example, in lung tissue, which shifts during breathing)

Using the IGRT method, irradiation is performed with a special linear accelerator. By accurately determining the localization and volume of the tumour on a computed tomography scan, as well as precise calculations of the intensity and direction of the radiation, minimal harm is achieved with maximum therapeutic effect.

Since the introduction of the new RAPID AIR radiation therapy system, cancer radiation therapy in Israel has reached a new level.

The principle of this system's operation lies in simultaneous high-precision irradiation and visualization using computed tomography.

This allows for a tenfold increase in the strength of irradiation without any harm to the patient's health. Additionally, it reduces the irradiation time and, in some cases, even avoids surgical interventions.
