The future professor received his medical education at Hadassah Medical School of the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. He completed his residency at the Bikur Holim medical complex specializing in cardiology and internal medicine. He has extensive medical practice in renowned medical centers in Israel and the United States. He began his medical practice while serving as a physician in the Israeli army. He later worked at the cardiocenter of the Institute of Heart, Lung, and Blood at the Maryland Medical Center in the United States. Upon returning to Israel, he took the position of director of cardiology and deputy director of the administration at the Bikur Holim medical complex. After some time, he headed the cardiology department at Hadassah Medical Center, where he also served as chief physician.
Today, the professor is the head of the coronary department at Ichilov Medical Center, as well as the head of the cardiology administration at Bikur Holim Medical Center.
He actively participates in the development of new techniques and implants. Under his leadership, a new stent for catheterization was developed, which is now used in clinics in Israel and in the best cardiology centers around the world.
Professor Banai is engaged in research work in the prevention and diagnosis of heart diseases. He is the author of 75 scientific works on cardiology and surgery. He is a member of numerous professional societies, including the Association of Cardiovascular Diseases of Israel, the European Society of Cardiac and Thoracic Surgeons, and others.
