The rapid pace of development of Israeli medicine allows for easy management of diseases that could not even be dreamed of 20-10 years ago. Much of this is facilitated by the growing potential of Israeli diagnostic medicine. Patients seek help from representatives of this branch of Israeli medical science regarding thyroid biopsy.

Indications for Thyroid Biopsy
The need for diagnosing various processes occurring in the thyroid gland (cancer, nodules, cysts). The tissues obtained through biopsy are subsequently examined in a cytological laboratory under a microscope to detect malignant cells in the tissues. The contents of cysts are also examined.
It is worth noting that thyroid biopsy is the only correct method for diagnosing cancerous processes of this organ.
Methods of Conducting the Study
There are two methods for conducting a thyroid biopsy:
- Fine needle aspiration biopsy. This is the most common method. A sample of tissue or the contents of a cyst is taken under ultrasound control using a long special needle.
- Surgical biopsy method. If fine needle aspiration biopsy is not possible, a surgical method for obtaining a biopsy is used. In this case, the surgeon removes part or all of the thyroid gland. This method of biopsy is most often used when there are suspicions of follicular thyroid cancer. The surgeon removes a portion of the tissue that contains the nodule, and the diagnosis is confirmed after cytological examination.
Aspiration biopsy can also be used to study the contents of thyroid cysts. Typically, in the case of malignant or benign cysts, their contents are hemorrhagic, reddish-brown in color, and may contain inclusions of destroyed thyroid cells. Congenital thyroid cysts contain a yellowish, almost transparent liquid.
It is also worth noting that thyroid biopsy can be performed not only for diagnostic purposes. It allows obtaining a sample of gland tissue or the contents of a nodule or cyst. Aspiration biopsy using a long hollow needle allows for aspiration procedures in the cavity of the thyroid cyst. If indicated, special sclerosing agents are introduced into the drained cavity of the cystic sac. Practice has shown that about half of thyroid cysts decrease in size and do not return to their original dimensions after drainage, ceasing to accumulate contents.
The diagnostic doctors at Top Ihilov clinic are happy to provide comprehensive assistance in conducting competent thyroid biopsy. Their extensive practical experience, sincere desire to help, skills, and abilities will allow for the quick diagnosis of processes in the thyroid gland to determine the exact therapy protocol.
