Circumcision in Israel

Circumcision is a minor surgical procedure in which the foreskin covering the glans of the penis is excised. In medicine, it is scientifically referred to as circumcision.

Indications for performing the circumcision procedure

There are a number of medical factors and diseases that require circumcision:

Various urological diseases can cause narrowing of the foreskin, which may lead to tissue necrosis of the glans of the penis:

  • Premature ejaculation
  • Short frenulum of the foreskin
  • Postitis – inflammation of the foreskin
  • Balanitis – inflammation of the glans of the penis
  • Multiple condylomas of the foreskin
  • Phimosis or paraphimosis – narrowing of the foreskin, making it impossible to retract the glans.

Phimosis can manifest in childhood and may lead to balanoposthitis. However, in children, such complications may resolve by the age of three. Therefore, if there are no clear signs of an inflammatory process, there is no need for emergency surgery. In adults, phimosis cannot be physiologically conditioned. The circumcision procedure should be performed urgently.

Preparation for the circumcision procedure

In the urology department of Ichilov Clinic, doctors will conduct a thorough consultation with each patient, where they will explain the indications and necessity of performing circumcision in Israel. All doctors at Ichilov Clinic, including urologists, have trained in leading clinics worldwide and have gained extensive experience. This ensures their professionalism and the absence of complications after the procedure. Furthermore, each surgeon in the urology department has permission from a special commission to perform circumcision according to religious canons.

In the leading clinic in Israel, Ichilov, the patient will undergo a series of progressive diagnostic procedures to determine possible contraindications:

  • Laboratory blood tests (including a coagulogram to determine blood clotting time) and urine tests
  • Ultrasound of the abdominal organs
  • X-ray of the chest organs.

Performing circumcision

The surgical intervention is performed under local anesthesia. The surgeon then proceeds with the circumcision procedure. The fold of skin that needs to be separated is disinfected. A clamp is then applied to the bleeding vessels. Using absorbable sutures, the surgeon closes the edges of the wound.
