How is UDS Conducted?
The examination is usually conducted after the bladder has been emptied.
After taking an antibiotic (to prevent infection) and administering local anesthesia, doctors insert special catheters with sensors into the bladder and intestines and fill the bladder with liquid, varying the filling speed and observing how the organ reacts to different body positions, coughing, and other stimuli, while simultaneously measuring pressure and other indicators:
- the speed at which the bladder empties
- the amount of fluid remaining in it
- the presence of factors that hinder urination
- the sensations of the patient herself
The testing lasts only 20 minutes, and at the end of the study, the patient can freely engage in any usual activities.
