Previously, prostate adenoma was subject to surgical removal. Today, advanced technologies help avoid such trauma, allowing for the use of bloodless, non-invasive treatment methods without significant blood loss, after which the patient psychologically finds it easier to undergo rehabilitation, and their body recovers quickly. Such surgeries can be performed using local anesthesia without the need for general anesthesia. These treatment methods have become very popular in Israel, as in most cases, patients are concerned about the quick recovery of urinary function and the ability to lead a quality sexual life in the future.
Laser (also known as photoselective) vaporization of the prostate is precisely such a safe method of surgical intervention. Laser vaporization is an endoscopic procedure for vaporizing (removing) damaged areas of prostate tissue using a laser beam. The radiation source, along with the endoscope, is introduced through the patient's urethra. The laser is directed precisely at the affected area, penetrating the tissue to a depth of no more than one millimeter, allowing the vascularized tissues of the organ to dissolve layer by layer, preserving the blood vessels intact. Under the influence of the laser beam, prostate tissues quickly vaporize, widening the urinary canal. All affected tissues can be removed in one procedure, and a repeat operation is not required. Furthermore, the laser mechanism is designed in such a way that it has an affinity for hemoglobin in the blood, which means that during vaporization, there is no blood loss – blood vessels are sealed immediately after vaporization.
After performing laser vaporization of prostate adenoma in Israel, patients were monitored for some time. Based on these observations, conclusions were drawn that this method provides excellent clinical results. All patients experienced improvement in symptoms, a quick return to normal (including sexual) life, and the results after vaporization last for more than five years. Among the side effects is erectile dysfunction, which occurs in less than 1% of patients.
The method of laser vaporization in Israel has many advantages. These include the bloodlessness of the procedure, the absence of the need for prolonged catheterization, rapid recovery and symptom improvement, long-term effect, and the possibility of performing the procedure on an outpatient basis.
