Retinal Pathology Treatment in Israel

Retinal diseases can be inflammatory, hereditary, age-related, degenerative, as well as retinal detachment. Any retinal pathology has a significant impact on the ability to see. The retina of the eyeball is a highly organized nerve tissue that perceives information about light impulses, converting them into numerous nerve impulses, and then directs the impulses to the brain via the optic nerve.

Causes

There are many causes of retinal pathologies, but the main ones are considered to be diseases of hyperopia, myopia, inflammatory and degenerative eye diseases. General illnesses should not be ignored, such as past viral and cold illnesses. Increased eye strain, excessive physical activity, stress, and environmental factors can also be causes. Additionally, the retina tends to change with age, indicating the possibility of the onset of atherosclerosis.

Symptoms of Retinal Pathology

Retinal pathology can manifest with various symptoms, for example, decreased visual acuity, objects appearing distorted, and the presence of “floaters” and dark spots in the field of vision. Early stages of the disease may not be accompanied by such symptoms. If a person has a hereditary predisposition to retinal pathologies, it is necessary to consult an ophthalmologist.

Diagnosis of Retinal Pathologies in Israel

Only a specialist ophthalmologist can diagnose retinal pathologies during an appointment. It is not possible to determine the disease independently. If there are suspicions of retinal pathologies, it is recommended to consult a specialist doctor.

Treatment of Retinal Pathologies in Israel

Treatment of retinal pathologies begins exclusively after diagnosing the disease and prescribing a specific type of treatment considering all factors and causes. Currently, there are two types of treatment for retinal pathology:

  • conservative treatment of retinal pathologies; the focus of this type of treatment is to improve blood circulation in the internal structure and accelerate metabolism; mainly this is a medication method with the prescription of anti-inflammatory, vitamin, and vasodilator drugs for the eyes
  • laser treatment of the retina; usually involves the use of low-intensity lasers and the application of laser coagulators with surgical intervention; this method can effectively prevent retinal detachment
  • laser coagulation of the retina; this procedure is performed for preventive or restrictive purposes; this method of treating retinal pathologies involves “spot welding” of the retina of the eyeball after damage or tears. The laser essentially seals micro-tears, creating fixation points for the retina. After applying this method, blood circulation, nutrition, and functionality improve, and it also prevents fluid from getting behind the retina.

Prevention

The preferred method of preventing retinal pathologies is a detailed analysis of the retina using dilated pupils by an ophthalmologist on specialized medical equipment. Another method can be considered the performance of preventive laser coagulation of the retina.
