Spinal Surgery Department

 

The Spinal Surgery Department, part of the neurosurgery department and orthopedic divisions of the medical center, offers a comprehensive approach to the diagnosis and treatment of spinal diseases in adults and children. This department has extensive experience, both nationally and internationally, in performing surgeries and treating spinal conditions (fractures, herniated disc removals, canal stenosis, tumors, fixation, and many others). Here, treatment is provided for over 6000 patients from around the world, and more than 600 spinal surgeries are performed annually, utilizing advanced methods and the latest technologies.

 

 

Detailed Information on Treatment Methods Used 

 

1. The use of unique minimally invasive technologies for treating the entire spectrum of degenerative diseases of the cervical, dorsal, and lumbar spine, including:

  • microscopic and endoscopic surgery, allowing treatment of a wide range of spinal diseases and injuries
  • the use of innovative and unique technologies for vertebral fixation employing minimally invasive treatment methods. During these surgeries, an intraoperative navigation system is used, reducing the need for multiple X-rays taken during the procedure, while also enhancing the accuracy of actions and surgical outcomes
  • the application of intraoperative computed tomography integrated with navigation technology to achieve maximum precision during various surgeries.

 

2. Treatment of various tumor diseases of the spine and spinal cord.

The department works closely with the National Department of Orthopedic Oncology and specializes in performing the full spectrum of oncological surgeries on the spine:

  • surgical total removal of a fragment of the spine (En Bloc Resection)
  • removal of spinal cord tumors
  • the method of cryoablation of tumor formations
  • radiosurgical treatment, delivering radiation that ensures maximum concentration of radiation in the tumor area while simultaneously reducing radiation exposure and damage to healthy tissue surrounding the neoplasm
  • the use of three-dimensional printing (3D) technologies in spinal surgeries:
    • printing precise models for pre-surgical planning and modeling
    • printing implants for vertebral replacement – individual selection of implants is conducted
  • the use of carbon implants provides an optimal option for postoperative radiation therapy/proton therapy. Achieving the maximum level of capabilities during postoperative irradiation allows for optimal treatment results in oncology, compared to previously observed results with metal implants

 

3. Specialization in the treatment of spinal injuries. The department receives many patients suffering from fractures along the entire spine. A combination of minimally invasive methods is used here to address fractures without significant damage to soft tissues.

 

4. Treatment of spinal diseases in elderly patients. As people age, bone density decreases, leading to internal fractures and actively manifesting spinal problems. In this regard, a special direction has been opened within the spinal surgery department that specializes in conducting therapeutic and surgical operations for older and elderly populations.

 

5. Treatment of scoliosis and spinal deformities in adults. Scoliosis and stable spinal deformities are observed in 30-68% of adults. Progressive scoliosis can significantly limit functional capabilities, causing discomfort and pain. As individuals age, spinal disorders can take on serious forms, leading to disability and a decline in quality of life. surgical treatment methods and innovative:

  • osteopathic surgeries to correct curvatures and deformities, including PCO osteotomy, three-column spinal osteotomy VCR, PSO/
