Professor David Schneiderhead of the oncological gynecology department and gynecological center
At the Top Ihilov clinic, when treating any gynecological disease, even the most complex, doctors always strive to preserve the uterus and its functions. All modern possibilities are used for this — from high-precision diagnostics to innovative minimally invasive methods that allow for excellent results with minimal trauma to the body. Each case is considered individually, with careful analysis of alternatives and the application of the most advanced technologies, so that the woman has the best chance of recovery while preserving her reproductive health and natural well-being.
However, preserving the uterus is not always possible: there are many serious and chronic or oncological diseases, in advanced forms of which complete removal of the uterus is necessary. But even in this case, the surgeons at Top Ihilov perform the surgery using minimally invasive methods, reducing the hospitalization and rehabilitation period and making them less painful.
Do you want a second opinion and the most gentle treatment option?
We will help clarify whether it is possible to preserve the uterus or perform the surgery in the most careful way — with minimal trauma and quick recovery.
We will respond delicately and substantively. Contacting us obligates you to nothing.
Vaginal Laparoscopic Hysterectomy
Uterine removal at the Top Ihilov clinic is performed using a minimally invasive method - laparoscopy. As a result of this intervention, the abdominal wall tissues are not cut, and access to the surgical field occurs through the vagina. Vaginal laparoscopy is less traumatic, which significantly reduces rehabilitation time and positively affects the postoperative period. Patients recover faster after the surgery.
Vaginal hysterectomy has several advantages over abdominal surgery:
- shorter hospitalization period;
- shorter rehabilitation period.
However, vaginal surgery is not possible in cases of an enlarged uterus.
Stages of the Operation
The operation, which can be open or laparoscopic, is performed under general anesthesia, the patient is in a gynecological chair, and a catheter is inserted into her bladder. Regardless of the type of surgery, the surgeon interrupts the connection of the uterus with the blood supply, the upper part of the vagina, the ovaries, and the ligaments that support the uterus in its natural position, and then makes an incision in the vagina. The uterus is removed through this incision.
Abdominal Laparoscopic Hysterectomy
In cases where vaginal removal is not possible (for example: with enlarged uterine sizes), the patient is assigned an Abdominal Hysterectomy – this is a surgery to remove the uterus through an incision in the lower abdomen. At the Top Ihilov clinic, such surgery can be performed using laparoscopic methods or with the use of a surgical robot.
As a rule, all unpleasant sensations from the surgery pass within 24 hours, and the patient can be discharged from the hospital.
Uterine removal at Top Ihilov is performed by leading gynecological surgeons in Israel.

When is Hysterectomy (Uterine Removal) Indicated?
Uterine removal (hysterectomy) is recommended for a patient when alternative treatment methods have not yielded satisfactory results.
The surgery to remove the uterus is performed to address several medical issues:
- Cancerous tumours of the gynecological organs: uterine cancer, cervical cancer, ovarian cancer, or cancer of the uterine lining.
- Removal of benign tumours, fibroids, and myomas causing bleeding
- Pain in the pelvic area
- Pain during sexual intercourse
- Pressure on the bladder
- Endometriosis (tissue of the uterine wall growing outside the uterus, mainly in the digestive system area). This issue is mainly resolved through abdominal hysterectomy, but in special cases, vaginal surgery is required.
- Prolapse of the uterus into the vagina due to aging or multiple births, complicating urination and bowel movements or making them involuntary
- Treatment of chronic pelvic pain if the cause of the pain is diagnosed in the uterus and other therapy methods have not helped
- Severe and irregular uterine bleeding causing a lack of hemoglobin (anemia) and unresponsive to treatment with medications or minimally invasive methods (hysteroscopy, curettage).
- Too muscular a uterine wall, resulting in pain, bleeding, damage to neighboring organs such as the bladder or rectum, pain during sexual intercourse, or back pain.
- Uterus maintaining the size as at 14-15 weeks of pregnancy
- Rapidly growing uterus (suspected malignant tumour)
- Multiple pelvic inflammations that may progress to an abscess
When removing the uterus, there may be a need to remove the cervix, ovaries, and fallopian tubes. Before making a decision about a hysterectomy, it is essential to consult with an experienced gynecologist, consider possible alternatives together with them, discuss various forms of surgical intervention, their pros and cons, as well as their suitability for the physical and psychological state of the patient.
Our clinic performs all types of hysterectomy surgeries. The use of modern techniques and technologies allows most surgeries to be performed in a progressive, gentle, and highly effective manner - minimally invasive laparoscopy.
