Diagnosis and Treatment in Israel

In modern medicine, examination of the abdominal cavity is performed using laparoscopes - thin tubes equipped with a lens system and optical fibers that illuminate the surgical area and transmit its image to a screen.

Laparoscopy serves both diagnostic and surgical purposes. The main advantages of laparoscopic surgeries include:

  • Faster rehabilitation, as small incisions are used instead of long cuts in the abdominal cavity
  • Smaller postoperative scar size
  • Less pain after surgery

Laparoscopy: Cases of Application

In the field of gynecology, laparoscopy is used for the following procedures:

  • Removal of ectopic pregnancy
  • Intrauterine embryo operations
  • Removal of abscesses around the fallopian tubes and ovaries
  • Removal of endometriosis lesions
  • Clearing of fallopian tubes
  • Reconstruction of fallopian tubes after ligation to prevent pregnancy
  • Removal of ovaries
  • Removal of fibroids
  • Removal of cysts
  • Total or partial removal of the uterus
  • Removal of tumours
  • Ligating fallopian tubes to prevent pregnancy
  • Uplifting a prolapsed bladder
  • Uplifting a prolapsed uterus
  • Uplifting the vaginal vault

However, laparoscopy is not always possible. For example, after a hysterectomy, in cases of inflammation in the abdominal cavity, or if the patient is overweight. In such cases, open surgery is preferred.

Laparoscopy: Stages of the Operation

Laparoscopy is performed under general anesthesia. Before the operation begins, the abdominal cavity is filled with carbon dioxide to facilitate the maneuvering of the laparoscope and surgical instruments. 3-4 incisions of 1-2 cm are made in the abdominal wall, one in the navel area and the others in the lower abdomen. Through these incisions, the laparoscope and surgical instruments (scissors, laser, needle, and thread for suturing incisions, etc.) are introduced.

Typically, after laparoscopic surgery, the patient is discharged within 1-2 days. As mentioned, after this minimally invasive procedure, there is a shorter rehabilitation period, and there are no side effects or painful sensations.
