Congenital Eyelid Droop (Ptosis) – Surgical Treatment at the Top Ichilov Medical Center

Typically, surgery for congenital ptosis is performed in early childhood. During the intervention, the muscle that lifts the eyelid is sutured in a way that shortens it. Access to the affected muscle is through an incision in the eyelid skin along the natural fold. The postoperative wound is closed with a cosmetic stitch using super-thin suture material. Within a year, the scar becomes virtually invisible to the naked eye. In cases of significant muscle damage, it is sutured to the frontal muscle. Children require general anesthesia, while adults need local anesthesia. The young patient stays in the department for one day, and complications are absent.

Acquired Upper Eyelid Droop (Ptosis) – Surgical Treatment at the Top Ichilov Medical Center

Upper Eyelid Droop (Ptosis)Surgical intervention for acquired ptosis differs in that the plastic surgery is performed only on the fascia of the muscle. It is incised and sutured in a way that reduces it. The incision for access is also localized in the natural fold of the eyelid, and if there is stretched skin, it is removed. The stitch is cosmetic and becomes nearly invisible after some time.

Surgical treatment of ptosis in adults can be performed using the latest technique, where the incision for access to the muscle fascia is made on the inner surface of the eyelid. After this operation, there is no scar left on the skin surface. The surgery for adult patients is performed on an outpatient basis under local anesthesia. After 2 to 4 hours, the patient can leave the department. The effect of the plastic surgery lasts a lifetime.
