The Neuro-ophthalmology Department at the Top Ihilov Clinic conducts multi-level diagnostics and comprehensive treatment for patients with elevated intracranial pressure using modern and reliable methods, such as a course of medication with the latest drugs that reduce intracranial pressure, the Optic Nerve Sheath Fenestration surgery, shunting of the subarachnoid space, and others.

1378
patients were treated with conservative methods
98%
of patients were able to fully normalize their pressure
96%
effectiveness of surgical treatment

In 92% of cases, Top Ihilov experts offer patients a treatment program that is at least 20% cheaper than the original!

Top Ihilov: Guaranteed Quality of ICP Treatment

At the Top Ihilov Medical Center, highly qualified surgeons, ophthalmologists, and neurologists work on issues related to elevated intracranial pressure. Their experience, along with extensive diagnostic and treatment capabilities, allows them to provide relief to thousands of patients with this diagnosis from different countries around the world.

The following methods are used at the Top Ihilov Clinic for treating intracranial pressure:

Conservative Treatment

Intracranial PressureConservative Treatment involves a course of medications that reduce ICP. In cases where there is a threat of vision loss, steroid treatment may be indicated for a short period.

Surgical Methods

Surgical treatment may involve shunting or surgical intervention on the optic nerve:

  • Optic Nerve Sheath Fenestration surgery – during the surgical intervention, an opening is created in the sheath of the optic nerve, which leads to a reduction in pressure within the nerve;
  • Shunting of the subarachnoid space (Lumbar Peritoneal Shunt). During the surgery, an artificial pathway is created between the subarachnoid space and the abdominal cavity, allowing excess cerebrospinal fluid to be drained into the abdominal cavity, thereby reducing intracranial pressure.

Specialists in the department provide highly effective treatment for vision disorders resulting from nervous system dysfunction.

Top Ihilov specialists are constantly implementing the most advanced methods and techniques for treating elevated intracranial pressure. This allows for high treatment success rates while preventing recurrences of this unpleasant condition.

Accurate Diagnosis of Elevated Intracranial Pressure at Top Ihilov

Elevated ICP is a condition that more often affects overweight women, but the disorder also occurs in men and even children.

Spontaneous elevation of intracranial pressure (ICP) or pseudotumor (Idiopathic Intracranial Hypertension) can cause serious harm to patients' vision and may subsequently lead to blindness.

First Day

Upon arrival at the clinic, the patient is immediately referred for a consultation with a leading Israeli neurologist, who carefully reviews the medical history and conducts a preliminary examination. Based on the examination results, the doctor develops a diagnostic plan.

Second Day - Diagnosis

Today, Israeli diagnosticians have a complex of highly accurate procedures and diagnostic methods that allow them to accurately determine the cause of elevated ICP for further resolution. When elevated intracranial pressure is suspected, the patient is examined in two directions:

  • Multi-level, comprehensive examination of the brain. This includes performing CT or MRI (if possible). These procedures allow for a more precise assessment of the causes of elevated ICP;
  • Lumbar puncture. Collection of cerebrospinal fluid is performed on patients to determine the pressure in the subarachnoid space; this procedure may also be conducted to lower cerebrospinal fluid pressure;
  • Mandatory consultation with an ophthalmologist with a fundus examination. Elevated ICP is characterized by swelling of the optic disc and dilation of retinal veins in both eyes.

Third Day - Treatment Plan

The results of the examinations are submitted to a group of experts, leading specialists in the fields of neurology, ophthalmology, and diagnostics. Together, the experts develop a treatment program and monitor its implementation.

Take the opportunity to undergo diagnostics for the causes of elevated ICP at the Top Ihilov Clinic. Its diagnostic departments often employ diagnostic methods that are not always available even in clinics in developed countries.
